Probation/CRC Qualifications

The Level 3 Diploma is a qualification for staff working in various capacities with individuals who have offended.

The qualification consists of 12 units. To gain the qualification the Learner must achieve the three mandatory units and three optional units. Unit selection is dependent on the work undertaken by the particular Learner. Before commencing this Qualification, Learners should have completed their initial core training which VQAS can deliver – see the Training Page for further details.

VQAS take a carefully planned, Assessor led, holistic and lean approach to assessment most of which is undertaken in the work place and involves:

  • A workbook through which Learners can explore and demonstrate their knowledge and understanding
  • Observations
  • Inspection of confidential work products
  • Professional discussions
  • Witness testimony from the Learners Line Manager, and if necessary
  • Assessor Set Questions

As a result of this approach most competent and knowledgeable Learners complete their qualifications within about 4 – 6 months.

The fee for this qualification may vary according to numbers and locations but a guide price would be £2150 per Candidate + VAT. Fees negotiable for larger groups of Learners.

The Level 3 Certificate in Probation Practice is an excellent entry level qualification for staff either at the commencement of their career or for those who have some contact with service users but whose role does not cover all the competences of the Level 3 Diploma in Pro-bation Practice. The qualification consists of the 3 mandatory units of the Level 3 Diploma and will be extremely helpful to staff who later go onto undertake the Level 3 Diploma.
As ever, VQAS has developed a carefully planned approach to the assessment of the certificate which involves:

  • A workbook through which Learners can explore and demonstrate their knowledge and understanding
  • An observation and inspection of confidential work products which we would suggest is undertaken by an Expert Witness e.g. Line Manager
  • A professional discussion and if necessary
  • Assessor Set Questions

The fee for this qualification may vary according to numbers and locations but a guide price would be £980 per Learner + VAT. Where the observation is undertaken by a VQAS Assessor then there would be an additional fee of £250 per Learner + VAT.

The Level 5 Diploma in Probation Practice is normally undertaken by staff training to become Probation Officers and consists of mandatory and optional units.

VQAS can offer a structured approach to assessment (as in the Level 3 Diploma) which enables Learners to achieve  their VQ units and meet the deadlines of the Probation Officer Training programme

After a Learner completes their qualification we email them and ask for feedback in relation to the Service we offer. In excess of 90% of learners routinely score VQAS as “excellent” and the following is just an example of the type of feedback we receive:

“… (The VQAS Assessor) was nothing short of excellent. She put an immense amount of effort in to make the process run smoothly and to accommodate my needs. She was a great motivator. Very clear, very thorough, very positive.”

“Very impressed with the delivery… given the fact that the service in the middle of the TR agenda and work and stress levels have both increased. ….. (The VQAS Assessor) provided a very good platform for reflecting on the knowledge I have gained and was always really responsive.”
