The Level 4 Diploma in Restorative Practice

The aim of restorative practice is to assist individuals and communities to manage conflict and tensions by repairing harm and building relationships. Restorative justice practitioners work with people, both in the community and in custodial environments, who often have offending and challenging behaviour. This qualification is aimed at people working in a wide range of settings who facilitate the restorative justice process. This includes assessment, preparation, facilitation and evaluation of restorative practice.

The qualification objective is to develop learners’ knowledge and skills in facilitating restorative practice. The content of the qualification covers the performance criteria and knowledge and understanding within the National Occupational Standards (NOS) in restorative practice as indicated on the units.

Structure of the qualification

In order to complete the qualification Learners need to complete 5 mandatory units together with either one or two optional units dependent on their work role and circumstances. The mandatory units are as follows:

  • Understanding general principles relating to restorative practice
  • Assess the circumstances of incidents towards identifying restorative responses
  • Engage with and prepare participants for a restorative practice
  • Facilitate participants’ interaction within restorative processes
  • Evaluate the outcomes from restorative processes

VQAS uses a structured approach in delivering all its qualification and for the Diploma this will involve the use of:

  • A Centre designed Workbook to aid learning and evidence the basic knowledge requirements.
  • Two Case studies which enables Learners to explore the development of their practice and link it to the underpinning knowledge
  • Observation and the inspection of case records which is normally undertaken by an experienced member of staff
  • Professional discussion

This well-established VQAS structured Approach to assessment has proven to be an efficient and effective way of delivering high quality vocational qualifications in a timely fashion.

Fees will be dependent on Learner numbers and location and are available on application.

The Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles of Restorative Practice is a single unit knowledge based qualification aimed at staff who are about to commence Restorative Practice work. Staff should have completed their initial Restorative Practice training before commencing the Award but VQAS may if required be able to assist with this training.
Once the training has been completed the Learner can complete the qualification using a distance learning approach involving:

  • A Centre designed Workbook
  • A Professional discussion
  • Fees will be dependent on Learner numbers and location and are available on application.
